For a tourist New York symbolize United States. It is a city that never sleeps and always waiting for new people to bask in the glory. A busy city with busy people, busy streets, and high buildings towering over is a magnificent sight. The city has lot to offer.  City has a great cultural diversity, great food, and a lot more. A visit to New York would be incomplete if we do not sneak a peek into the places for which the city is famous.

NYC skyline- NYC skyline is something that holds your nerves still. It is awe inspiring scenery. The iconic skyscrapers, bridges, waterways, islands and monuments always create a breathtaking panorama. While you can feel the immensity of the surroundings from anywhere in the City, the grandeur of the cityscape is best viewed from above. Take an elevator ride up 1,050 feet to the 86th-floor observation deck of the Empire State Building; New York City’s tallest structure, this soaring art deco masterpiece offers a completely unobstructed, 360-degree view of the city below. For a spectacular vista that includes the Empire State Building itself, head up to the Top of the Rock, located on the 67th, 69th and 70th floors of 30 Rockefeller Plaza. Both the Empire State Building and Top of the Rock are open late, so don’t miss the chance to see the City lights shimmer after dark.

Times square- if you are done with the skyline makes your way to the ground to the Times Square. With massive digital board shimmering a midnight will seem like an afternoon. Then there are star studded broadways Off-Broadway shows. Again there are people peddling art and jewelry on the street; and, of course, the Naked Cowboy—who plays guitar in his tighty-whities—the expansive stretch of Midtown is a feast for all five senses. Visitors can shop in stores as Toys “R” Us (which boasts an indoor Ferris wheel), take pictures with wax celebrities(all over the world) at Madame, watch the ball drop on New Year’s Eve or grab a pre- or post-theater meal along Restaurant Row where many eateries offer deals.

Central park- a span of 843 acres in the heart of Manhattan is one of the world’s greeted urban oases, encompassing a diverse landscape of rolling fields, walking trails and tranquil bodies if water all creation of human art. Among its attractions are Wolman Rink, the Central, Belvedere Castle and the Friedman Memorial Carousel. Sheep meadow the Great Lawn

NYC museums- NYC is famous for its world class institutions and museum mile is a good place to start. The stretch of fifth avenue include  The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Niue Gallery, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the National Academy Museum & School, Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum (temporarily closed for renovation through 2013), The Jewish Museum, the Museum of the City of New York and El Museo del Barrio.

Statue of liberty and Ellis island- the statue of liberty is a gleaming beacon for generations of immigrants seeking a better life in America. Though it is visible from the land a short ferry ride will bring you up and personal. Near the statue is the Ellis Island immigration museum.

Yankee stadium- the stadium built at 1923 till 2008 was better known as ‘the house that Ruth built”

Flushing meadows-corona park- best known as the location of the US Open, Flushing Meadows–Corona Park—which, at 1,255 acres, is the City’s third-largest park—boasts a range of worthy attractions. The Unisphere, a 140-foot-tall stainless-steel globe built for the 1964/1965 World’s Fair, and the observatory towers, site of the final alien fight scene in Men in Black, live on as reminders of the event.

Bronx zoo- a 265 lush of wildlife sanctuary.

Brooklyn bridge- a passage between Manhattan and Brooklyn is the world’s longest suspension bridge.

Downtown Manhattan- The area is packed with cultural institutions, including Federal Hall National Memorial, Fraunces Tavern Museum, and the National Museum of the American Indian, The Skyscraper Museum, The New York City Police Museum and the Museum

September 11 memorial- a memorial for the tragic 9/11.

New York City Facts

New York is a state in the northeastern part of USA. It is the 3rd most populous state. New York is bordered by New Jersey and Pennsylvania in the south and in the east by Connecticut, Massachusetts and Vermont. It shares its maritime border with Rhode Island and an international border with Canadian provinces of Ontario in north and west and Quebec to the north.

It boasts a population of over 8.1 million and thus is the most populous city of United States. It is known for its status as a financial, cultural, transportation, and manufacturing center and for its history as a gateway of immigration to United States. According to the department of commerce of USA it is a destination choice for many travelers. The city was named for the 17th century duke of York, James Stuart, future James ii and vii of England and Scotland. Its original inhabitants were the Algonquian, Iroquois and leaped Native American group. The Dutch settlers moved in early 17th century. It was first claimed by Henry Hudson for the Dutch. The British took over the colony in 1664. The boarders of British colony were similar to those of present day.

New York became an independent state on July 9, 1776 and enacted its constitution in 1777. I became the eleventh member of united stated in July 26, 1788. In the 19th century transportation received a boon after the canals were built the canal opened up vast areas if New York to commerce and settlement. Improving transportation, it enabled additional population migration of territories west of New York. Ellis Island was the main facility for emigrants entering United States between Jan 1st 1892 to Nov 12 1954. It was owned by the federal government and is now a part of statue of liberty national monument. Almost 12 million immigrants passed through Ellis Island between 1892 and 1954. Ellis Island still remains a subject of dispute between New York and New Jersey. The statue of liberty was a gift from France to United States to mark the centennial of American declaration of independence. It was gifted in New York harbor on October 28, 1886.

New York is home to largest African American population and the second largest Asian American population in united stated. It also is the home to the largest Puerto Rican, Dominican and Jamaican American population. Catholic comprise the highest of the religion population wit 40 %. Protestants come second with 30% followed by Jews 8.4%; Muslims 3.5%, Buddhist 1% and 13% are of no religious affiliation.  The finance of the world knows the address of New York. Its gross state production in 2010 was $1.6 trillion. In 2007 per capita income was $46,364 placing it 6in the nation and 8th in the world. This city is the leading centre of banking, finance and communication in the United States and is the location of New York stock exchange, the largest stock exchange in the world by dollar volume. The city is advertised as a changing city improving city. The people crowded together brushing against each other are the people in the most powerful city of the world, the New York.
